New look for the Skin Deep Cosmetics Safety Database

Dear Compact Signer,

I’m emailing on behalf of the Skin Deep team, to let you know that yesterday EWG unveiled a new look to their Skin Deep Cosmetics Database.

The new site incorporates many of the suggestions that we heard from compact signers and other Skin Deep users. We are really excited about this “Skin Deep makeover” that is designed to be even more user-friendly.

Some of the features of the new site include:

A new look, with easier search and navigation tools. Many helpful suggestions from you have contributed to this update.

Updated ingredient safety profiles. EWG’s Skin Deep now presents two sources of data – 1) data published by government health agencies and scientific advisory bodies used for rating ingredients, and, 2) new to this update, additional studies available in the open scientific literature listed for informational purposes only to provide consumers with additional resources.

Refined “data availability” rating. Previously in Skin Deep, ingredients and products received a data gap rating represented by a numeric percentage. In response to user comments and for a better user experience, the new “data availability” ratings are now reflected as categories -- “no data,” “limited,” “fair,” “good” and “robust.”

Please note that the link for companies to sign into the database has moved to the top, right-hand side of the page, above the navigation bar.

We look forward to hearing your thoughts about the new design. If you have any comments or questions, contact us at skindeep@ewg.org.

Thank you for your continued support!

~ The Skin Deep Team
