Dear friends,

Please join me for the launch of a Book of Longing, March 10, 2012 from 7-9PM at the Fleishman Gallery in Toronto. The book has been a couple of years in the making, and it's been a great journey. I've had the good fortune to work with book makers, printers, and other skilled people to realize this project. The exhibition will feature the book – it's a 16-page, fold-out, screenprinted, handbound work – as well as each of the 48 individual images from it. An offset-printed version will also be launched.

A Book of Longing explores the complicated knot of emotional longing and sexual desire. It conjures up memories and fantasies; it represents tokens of affection and objects of yearning; it evokes interaction with the lover, the self and the lover-in-one’s-self. Personal effects, sexual joinings, clasped hands, candy hearts, gestural portraits and a poetic text, appear in succession and combination as the pages of the bookwork are unfolded, inviting the viewer to consider different layers of experience and understanding.
