So following the complete failure of my present devices, I had to go buy new detectors.
I have credits at Canadian Tire through my Mastercard, so I went there.
It's a major hardware store in Canada, so it has selection.Local hardware stores carry Garrison and they fail like crazy and are clam shell packed.

I managed to get detectors NOT in clam shell packaging, so I consider that a triumph.
There are no detectors NOT made of plastic of course.

Completely cardboard packaging = no plastic!!! Life Saver brand 3 pack of ionizing smoke alarms. The batteries were placed in backwards, so there wasn't even a stupid plastic tab to throw out. I figure this is promoted to contractors because it was inexpensive at $25 for 3, so it's not on the www.CanadianTire.ca website.

Recycled paperboard with plastic window cup thingys: Universal Security Instruments Carbon Monoxide and Natural Gas Alarm

and a 4-in-1 CO smoke, gas & fire from the same co.

Stupidly, the packages are labelled "100% Recyclable Package" along with a variety of indiscernible enviro logos.

I will be recycling my dead detectors with the electronics pick up.
