Volunteering and Work Exchanges at Anarres
Lucky for me, many people want to volunteer in the clinic and at workshops. When you volunteer, you get some of what we make, some stuff I give you, deep discounts... that sort of thing.... plus hour for hor credits towards workshops. That feel like a win-win for me!
When you arrange a work exchange for a full day workshop, you give 2 + hours of your time setting up and cleaning up afterwards and you join us for 6 hours of my time in a semi private class of 2-6 participants. You are a full participant in the workshop, receive lunch and refreshments, and take home 5+ finished products and notes like everyone else.
But here is the catch:
I ask for 6 hours of your help in total, so if you gave two on workshop day, you'll come in again some other day to help me out for two hours. It takes about 18 hours of my time to give a 6 hour workshop. After a workshop, I am all out of steam for cleaning up. So I need help. I really need help!
I also ask for $50 donation to cover the costs of materials.
The reasons I ask for this is:
~ This is a real cost to me for a participant, and it's a low estimate. A workshop costs not only what you package and take home, but also supplies we use that I cannot sell in the future, and costs such as laundry, dish soap and overhead.
~ In the past when I did not ask for a deposit, or money at all, about half the folks who volunteered cancelled or did not show up. It seems it's human nature that when nothing is at risk, committment fails. Which leads me to...
~ We humans often don't appreciate what we get for free. I want you to feel fully invested. I want you to contribute. I will offer you what I offer people who pay full price. I want us to feel Even Steven!
If volunteeering - or a better term is "Work Exhange" - is still oif interest to you, please follow up with me. What do you want to lkeartn? What do you have to offer?
I'll be in touch!
