It's a big day! Women's Voices for the Earth launched the Story of Cosmetics today, a seven-minute film exposing the ugly truth about personal care products. Lead in lipstick? Cancer-causing chemicals in baby shampoo? Chemicals linked to birth defects, fertility problems, and hormone imbalance in your lotion, sunscreen, and cosmetics? Watch the Story of Cosmetics to learn more about how these chemicals get into the products we use everyday.

And the other big news: the Safe Cosmetics Act of 2010 was introduced today in the U.S. Congress! For the first time in 70 years, Americans have the opportunity to pass legislation to ensure that personal care products are free from harmful chemicals linked to cancer, birth defects, fertility problems, and other serious health impacts.

The products that we put on our bodies should be safe. If you are American, take action to urge your Representative to co-sponsor the Safe Cosmetics Act! This won't be an easy fight.
