DESCRIPTION
The inner bark of the slippery elm is ground to a powder and used for such diverse treatments as coughs, sore throat, colic, diarrhea, constipation, hemorrhoids, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), bladder and urinary tract infections, syphilis, herpes, and for expelling tapeworms. It is sometimes added to lozenges to relieve sore throats.

It can also be applied to the skin for wounds, burn, cold sores and toothaches.
